I have no idea whether she's qualified....that's what makes it kind of weird.

don't take this the wrong way, Phil, but, I think part of the reason you hate the Kennedys as much as you do is because they are Irish.

I can always sense the sheer loathing whenever Phil talks to me, you know.

I like McCarthy too. Too bad she decided to run for Congress instead of marrying someone rich and famous.

There is no reason for someone to think that about me. You probably just think that because of the typical Italian - Irish tensions that were typical some time ago. I'd like you to show me where I have said or even hinted at serious distaste for the Irish. If they were French or Dutch then your assumption would at least make sense.

The only thing that irritates me a bit about the Irish is how obnoxious certain March festivities can get. Other than that, I really have no idea why you'd say that I dislike them as a people. I've gotten this thrown at me before for whatever reason. I think people ought to take note as to some of my political heroes and if you know me personally, where I'm from, who I associate/work with, etc. then you'd know that I really can't have any serious dislike for the Irish. It's just silly.

I dislike the Kennedy family because they are wrongly seen as royalty. They are overrated and are excused of a lot of their mistakes because America loves them. Disagreeing with them on policy is one thing but the hype around them is sickening.

I never said it was 'loathing' or 'serious distaste.'  and I readily admit it has to do with, in my mind, the Irish-Italian tensions that were prevalent, especially in NYC not really too long ago (recent enough that my grandfather, who is still alive, remembers certain things).  it's just a hypothesis about how your subconscious might operate with respect to this situation.

I know it distracts from the topic but I ought to clear the air...

For the record, I'll state that when I was little, I used to want to be Irish. For a brief period of time, I even lied to certain people and said I was Irish. I remember in kindergarten, we were making little leperchauns in class and I was asked if I was Irish. Everyone in the class was at least part Irish. I think I just assumed that I was as well. I went home that night and found out that I wasn't. It was disappointing for a little kid. I wanted to be like everyone else especially since I live in an area dominated by Irish Catholics.

As the years went on, I began to realize that not only was I one of the few people that wasn't Irish, I was one of the few people fully Italian. Instead of disliking it, I became proud of it. For a few years in grade school, I became fed up with everything being Irish and began to dislike it. I became fanatically Italian. You think I'm bad now? You really have no idea.  Tongue Then, I grew up. I realized that the Irish and Italians actually have a lot in common. It's a shame because I have this one friend who is partly Irish and partly Italian. He's the way I was in grade school. He considers himself fully Italian (though he's only 25%) and hates anything associated with the Irish. It's really quite sad. I'm the one in our group of friends that has to tell our one friend off from time to time and I'm actually the one who is fully Italian.

Ok, no more ethnicity talk.  Smiley

Well, as long as you weren't trying to base it off any of my actual actions. I didn't live through any of the tensions and no one in my family ever really talks/cares about it.

The Irish and Italian communities will be forever locked in Catholic drama.

Does she have a degree and if so what kind? What kind of work has she done? Has she ever been in charge of anything? Does she have a criminal record? I don't know very much about Caroline Kennedy, but it would appear to me that if someone were to assess her qualifications these are just a few of the questions that that someone would want answers to before they deem her qualified or not.

Does anyone even know if she is to the left or the right of Schumer?

Can anyone name five policy positions she believes?  Is there anything about her political philosophy that makes her interesting?

Nobodies should have to win campaigns to be in elected office to demonstrate their capability
.  All her "campaign" shows is that she's capable of wielding influence.  As one reporter asked her today, has she ever ever been to Syracuse before today?

I mean, during this "campaign" if she makes her policy positions abundantly clear and makes her executive capabilities clear that she can win reelection, I will drop my objections.  But the governor should be aware of what she believes in besides that she's an Obama lackey.

I'm ok with Ted Kaufman because he's a seatwarmer to allow a fair competitive election in two years.  I'd be ok with Caroline doing the same thing but that's it.

What I want to know is when we started caring if someone was "qualified" to be a Senator.

When blatant nobodies started being "qualified" to be appointed.

I'm fine with Ahnuld, Hillary, and Franken because they proved themselves to not be 100% trainwrecks with their campaigns.
