Official Thread, Town Hall, Campaign Centre, Soapbox, Rally and Gaffes, Misspeakings & Random Tasteless Remarks.

The photo I used when applying for a job at a nursery (application unsuccessful)

Who bist "Al"?

I'm a Senator here, haha. Been around in fantasyland politics since ever. I like clogging up an already choked Senate with various bills, occasionally on his pet subjects. Leftish. Sometimes I appear to be pragmatic, but this may be a fluke. Am probably sane. I like tea.

Why's he running again?

CHANGE!!!!!!!111

No, seriously.

There are some issues that I'd like some legislation passed or changed on. And I'm running for re-election to (try to) make sure that this happens.

What is his record in the Senate? What are his positions on teh ishooes? What's 'is platform?

Scroll down a tad for the answers!

Why are these questions so forced and hackneyed?

Pass.

I offer you, the People of Atlasia, three pledges that I will not break. If I am re-elected I will...

1. Fight to improve the standing, the condition and the rights of Ordinary People and their communities.

2. Oppose efforts to make the game needlessly complicated, undemocratic and bureaucratic.

3. Hold the Powers that Be to account, to to keep a clear head and to co-operate with other Senators wherever possible.

I can also offer some specific legislative promises;

1. I will introduce a Bill outlawing all kinds of systematic discrimination in both public AND private sectors. This is part two to the Affirmative Action Act.

2. If the Labor Rights Act fails or runs out of time, I will re-introduce it in it's modified form.

3. Invade Lichtenstein.

I've been in the Senate a couple of times before my current spell and while there's no point in going over all that, I always like to point out my role (along with Chris) in drafting and writing up this. The title is a little misleading.

Anyway. As far as the current spell goes, I've played an important role in the creation of the following acts:

Affirmative Action Act (not yet wikied; repealed F.L. 8-14. This, it must be said, is but part one of two. See my Platform for part two!)
The End to Disgusting, Hypocritical Yuppie Protectionism Act
The Dependent Child and Income Tax Credit Act
The Foreign Aid Restoration Act
The Financial Services Regulation Act

Another bill of mine (The Embryonic Stell Cell Research Amendment Bill) is being voted on in the Senate right now, while I've also written major changes to the Labor Rights Act.

My role in the above varied from bill to bill; sometimes I just introduced a bill with the intent of raising a certain issue and let others run with it, sometimes I played a role in drafting and writing the legislation itself. Co-operation with other Senators is very important and I try to do that whenever possible.
My voting record hasn't always been as reliable as I'd like (for one reason or another), but I think my other work in the Senate more than makes up for this.

I have also written an official Senate Resolution on the situation in the Congo and have asked searching questions of Presidential nominees.

In addition to that, I've played a role in shooting down various pieces of legislation that have just been generally awful or have had serious constitutional issues (everything from the "Free Palestine" Bill to the Mental Law Gun Ban Bill) and I will continue to do this if re-elected.

Senator, do you support the proposed constitutional convention? I would greatly value your opinion.

Highest preference of the SDP candidates Tongue

Anyway, while I highly disagree with Al I applaud his efforts to make the senate run smoothly and his ability to keep things interesting without going over the top (too often)

Senator, do you support the proposed constitutional convention? I would greatly value your opinion.

That would depend why the proposed convention is proposed.
If it's felt that elements of the constitution are damaging the game in one way or another and that they are too fundamental to be dealt with through the amendments procedure, and if the people proposing a constitutional convention have a good idea of what should be done to deal with the problems that they see with the existing constitution, then I might support a constitutional convention.
But if the idea is being floated as a miracle cure for all of Atlasia's ills without any specific problems being noted and proposals thought through... then I really don't see the point in having one.

You might want to fix the spelling of "Liechtenstein". Wink

At any rate, first pref.

Sigh. One last bump. Win or lose, I'll have some things to say in the morning that won't be pretty.

But, for now, I will say that I have run a campaign that has been positive, honest and clean. I have tried to inform the electorate of my record and give some indications of what I'd do if re-elected. I've smeared no one, not in public, not in private and I've neither lied nor cheated nor sought votes in graveyards.

I would also like to thank everyone who's voted for me.

That is all.
