Around 250 Christian activists are protesting outside the Welsh assembly building during a poetry reading.

Patrick Jones was invited by two assembly members to read from his collection Darkness Is Where The Stars Are, which has already led to claims it is "obscene and blasphemous".

Mr Jones was "shocked" by the turnout but said it was good for free speech.

Stephen Green, director of Christian Voice, said: "This turnout shows the strength of feeling of people."

Protesters sang hymns and some held placards before the ticket-only event inside the Senedd building.

Mr Green added: We're seeing the Christian faith attacked on all sides."

"Now it's under attack in a seat of government in the UK."

Nick Bourne, leader of the Welsh Conservatives was at the demonstration, and was asked if he was showing his support.

He replied: "Yes, essentially."

Why are you calling for the guy to be sacked? Because he was at a protest?

No - it's who he was associated with. The 'put prisoners on a big island somewhere and send gay kids for re-education' Christian Voice

Oh, ok.

To elaborate, the group also wants to make no-fault divorce and blasphemy illegal. They have also stated that female employment should be discouraged, although it's not clear whether they want to make it illegal.

Christian Voice is a false name for them. Moron Voice or 1800 Voice would be better.

They also, in full blown political mode, have a strange interest in intellectual property/copyright laws. That's So Macho....

Not sure - which is why I think he wants to secure as much of it as he can. As much a blaring gay dance floor isn't my scene, as far as I know that song is simply boycotted (and it's B-side um... 'Cruising')

More Nick Bourne related news; it's emerged that he claimed an iPod (amongst other things) on his expenses. Vaughan Roderick (who knows his stuff, though probably doesn't have quite the links he does with Tories as with one or two other parties, so maybe a little salt is needed) says that "he understands" that a majority of the Tory group want him to go.
