The seven habits of highly ineffective terrorists.

An interesting read.  It puts forward the position that terrorists aren't so much following a cause (as their results have been very unsuccessful) but irrational and essentially like street gangs writ large.

If the Shoe bomber wasn't such an idiot, he would have used a cigarette lighter instead of a match. Cigarette lighters weren't banned on planes, despite all of the fairly harmless items that were.

The financial crisis has taught me not to see "terrorists" as a singular entity. I suspect that those pulling the strings may not have completely identical interests as the ones actually sacrificing themselves.
