Actually, just to put things in perspective: though opposition won only in 5 states and the capital district, against 17 states for the chavistas over 55% of Venezuelans (more than 15.5 million of them) will now live under opposition governors.  Chavistas won in the jungle, opposition took the cities.

Here are the 5 largest Venezuelan states by population:

Capital District (Caracas): 5.249 mln. residents - opposition gain
Zulia (Maracaibo) - 3.620 mln. residents - opposition hold
Miranda: 2.828 mln. residents - oppozition gain
Carabobo 2.227 mln. residents - oppozition gain
Lara 1.795 mln. residents - chavista hod

I now will search the state capitals.

Actually, confusingly, most of Caracas is located in Miranda state.  Only the central Libertador municipality of 2 million people is located in the capital district.  And the Chavistas won the municipal government there, so I'm not sure whether to count it under its own Chavista government or the Caracas opposition government.

Actually, you are right. The mayor of Greater Caracas has a jurisdiction over 5 municipalities with their own local mayors. 4 of these are in Miranda (and all of which will be under the opposition control also locally). But the largest municipality, which constitutes the Capital District will have a chavista local mayor. Also, I don't know where I took the 5.249 mln. figure: the Metro Caracas under the new oppositioin mayor has about 3.2 mln. people, of which around 2 mln. live in the chavista-governed Libertador. So, my estimate of 55% was way off - still, the three largest states, as well as the Metro Caracas gov't are under the opposition control now.
