I'd be so chill with Obama or Reagan pushing Grant off the $50.

I would say Reagan.

Has anybody brought one of those Obama plates?

Besides, I have a rebellious streak.  Reagan was famous enough (and not necessarily for his negative impacts) to warrant his place among the top U.S. presidents.  He certainly did lots of bad things too, but I'm trying to look at this from a historical and not an ideological perspective.  I'm sure all of the presidents currently on money (Lincoln, etc.) did lots of awful things and were often extremely dividing at the time.

Grant is just awful and needs to go.

I'd like Reagan on the $50.

But about Obama - who cares.  There's nothing wrong with naming something after him.

Anyway, the consensus should be that Grant has no place anywhere near the top 40 of presidents.

The anti-dictatorial side of me (inherited from parents who lived in Maoist China) finds this scary.

Because Obama is an authoritarian.  He clears the playing field, eliminates his opposition so they can't even compete.  This is how he won his state senate seat.  This is why he chose Hillary for Sec of State (to prevent her from running a primary against him in 2012).  I wouldn't put it past him to suspend the 2012 election for whatever reason and attempt to become president for life.

Bad idea. He needs to put the kibosh on these things right away for as long as he's in office.

Good grief. I'm sorry, but no, that's ridiculous. Freepers said the same thing about Clinton, Democrats said the same thing about Bush, but at least in Bush's case we have examples of actually disregarding the Constitution instead of such behaviors as co-opting your former primary opponent.

Because it's wrong to name things for living people, and not a good sign if people like having things named for them.

The guy is a sell out! He's suddenly a partisan Dem because some firm asked him to work for them. He used to be a Libertarian.

I really don't see the big deal out of all this. Let's wait to see what kind of impact his presidency has before we start judging his level of historic credibility.

This is a little too early.  I think naming things after presidents should be done AFTER they are finished being president.  What happens now if something really bad happens with Obama and he has to resign or something?  But hell, at this rate they'd probably just rename the shcool after Biden.

I'd be in favor of putting an icon like JFK on it.  To those who say he didn't do anything deserving $50 bill status, that's kind of the point.  He's a symbol, much like the Statue of Liberty.

People who find this scary or worrying probably would be absolutely terrified by this store in Minneapolis. It's across the street from the Obama campaign HQ (or at least where it used to be since it's kind of pointless now.) and it's called Pink Hobo and I have absolutely no clue what is sold there (If I had to guess I'd say it's a clothing store.) But anyway the windows of it are nothing but Obama posters, mostly portraits of him with the words HOPE below in gigantic letters. I think they're still up actually, maybe I ought to try to get a pic sometime. But the design of the posters looks EXACTLY like something you'd see in a totalitarian regime with a cult of personality around the dictator. The response would be hilarious.

Clinton wasn't gonna run against him in 2012.  And if she did, she wouldn't win.
