http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/09/obama.transition/index.html

According to aides to President-Elect Barack Obama, he has already about made up his mind on what his first move will be on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 after his first night in the White House.  Obama wants to repeal the stem-cell research ban among other things implemented by President Bush.  He is looking at all the Bush policies and is deciding which ones can stay on the books and which ones need to be repealed.

Excellent Smiley  This policy means a lot to me; good to see he'll repeal it.

Don't be surprised.  When a new President takes over for one from another party, he will usually go through the CFR and immediately strike down most of the old guy's regulations/exec. orders.

I agree with this move. But this isn't the first time this has happened. I know that the first time Obama takes a s**t in the White House, it will be historic and monumental to move of the forum members.

I strongly agree with Obama's position on stem cell research.  I hope it is successful.

All of them, Barry, all of them.

Save the protection of the northwest Hawaiian islands and the creation of Congaree and Great Sand Dunes National Parks.  There must be something else good to come out of the last eight years, but nothing comes to mind right now.

The article says that Valerie Jarrett is Obama's top choice to take his Senate seat.

Blago has taken note and will clearly place great significance on Obama's preference when making his decision.

Disgusting. Adult stem cell research is the way to go. Of course Obama is disgusting for his stance on abortion.

ah, so that is the "Change" he wants to implement - he's gonna go straight at the moral issues: destruction of embryos, abortion, homosexuality.

who would have guessed?!

Stem cell research is a moral issue to far fewer people than is people dying of curable diseases.  Health care is a major part of President-elect Obama's platform.

I see no evidence of action on the second two issues you mention.

The AP notes "Presidents long have used executive orders to impose policy and set priorities. One of Bush's first acts was to reinstate full abortion restrictions on US overseas aid."

Adult stem cells are just as effective as the ones gotten from murdering babies.

Maybe his supporters, who wanted a change from the evangelical policies of Bush43?

The American people overwhelmingly rejected the Bush-Republican theocracy on Tuesday. After eight years of evangelical tyranny, it's time for a government that embraces science, technology and reason.

Would you consider John McCain a theocrat?  What about Gordon Smith or John Sununu?  Weren't morality initiatives relatively successful on Tuesday?

I'm not a big social initiative guy, but I think the evidence speaks against your claim that the people rejected Bush-style social policy.

I am opposed to this on moral grounds (although not religious grounds- even though my religion opposes it).
