Another depressing note about basically the worst county in the country.

One the one hand, it did swing Obama a decent amount (especially for a county with almost no blacks):

Bush 83.06%
Kerry 16.17%

McCain 78.60%
Obama 20.47%

On the other hand...

Bush 47,267
Kerry 9,201

McCain 59,166
Obama 15,406

EVIL place.

Huh.  Its population has increased significantly since 2004.

I feel that there should be some kind of point being made here, but then such things happen so rarely in BRTD's world.

This is one of the worst exurban sprawl counties that votes uber-GOP and it just keeps growing.

To add fuel to the fire, the county drove what blacks it had out with threats of violence in the early 20th century I think. Now it is a pretty well to do suburban and exurban county.

You can read a squib about the expulsion here. It had to do with an alleged black on white rape. Shocking! What ensued was a lynching and expulsion - never again as it were.

But less Republican than four years ago, although at the same it contributed a net of 6,000 more Republican votes.

However, at the same time, other suburban Atlanta counties grew far less Republican during the same period, and Obama actually flipped three of them that gave Bush more than 60% of the vote 4 years ago.  That's rather remarkable.

Another depressing note about basically the worst county in the country.

I currently live in Forsyth County (the fifth metro Atlanta county that I've lived in).   It's not quite as bad as you portray.  It's true that Forsyth has an awful history, but the county is finally becoming more diverse as Atlanta's population spreads outward.  Not that it's very diverse, but a few years ago it wasn't *at all* diverse.  And although it's still a heavily Republican area, it's no longer a complete stranglehold for the GOP.

Forsyth did give McCain a large majority, but there were at least nine Georgia counties by my count that gave him even larger majorities.
