This is coming from a resident of region with close ties to my most disliked group of people.  Wink

Many of us in Quebec hate your most hated group of people. They give us to the Great Britain for stop a war than France was losing. There is some hatred of French because of that. The french-speaking catholic people didn't want to be with english-speaking protestants.

I don't know many things of Michigan. Probably the winner will be the one who sells the best his way of improving economy of Michigan. Michigan's economy is in bad shape.

You'd think that'd be how it'd go.  Then again, Detroit did reelect Kwame Kilpatrick.

That's good. It sounds like Terri Lynn Land is the best option for the Republicans?

In my opinion.  Mike Cox wouldn't be bad either.

They preferred to keep Saint Pierre et Miquelon...

Not that I know of.  There's a lot of DINOs that are conservative in Wayne County, that tend to be socially conservative but fiscally liberal/moderate-liberal (my state Rep. and Senator, Robert Ficano, etc).

There a Republicans who are fiscally conservative, but socially moderate (Rep. Fred Upton).

I'll make you a challenge find me one populist Republican that is currently in Congress from any state that has a following of any size and I will concede that they exist in the first place.

I was rooting for Dick DeVos but if he is not running then either Cox or Land  but not both at the same time. That primary would destry the MI GOP and that has already happened in far too many Blue states like Illinois.

I like Fred Upton.  Is there any talk of him running for Gov. or were you just using him as an example?

He was just an example.  I haven't heard rumors of him running, and if he did, he'd lose the primary.

I have noticed a general divide in MI GOP. I beleive it stems from the rivalry of Saul Anuzis and Chuck Yob. Are any candidates aligned with either faction. That could cause a problem if they are aligned with either faction.

Sad

I don't want Cherry -- too connected to Granholm. (I guess I could support Lynn Land)

No, there's still others:

Democrats:

Lt. Governor John Cherry (too connected to Granholm)
Wayne Co. Executive Robert Ficano (DINO)
House Speaker Andy Dillon (Tax issues would be a problem)
Congressman Bart Stupak (My kind of candidate -- might be too socially conservative to win primary, though)

Republicans:

Attorney General Mike Cox (Yuck, scum)
Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land (Good individual - competent)
Congressman Peter Hoekstra (nutso fundy!!!)
Businessman David Brandon (who?)
Congressman Mike Rogers (meh, I don't think so...)
Congresswoman Candice Miler Smiley

Yeah, my list is very close to MSUFan's list for the race (got my lists for most of the races now, working on some still though).

You have to wait a year to see who can get enough primary momentum, but the obvious candidates are unlikely ti disappoint.

It does stem from that rivalry, and no, no candidates have aligned with either faction.  Although I've  heard that there may even be a splitting between the Yob faction.  I'm not sure what's been causing that rift though.

Hasn't Anuzis said he's going to run for RNC chairman?

Yes and Yob is too in a way. This Fred Thompson crap we have been hearing if it turns out to be true Fred does not intend to actually do any work. He wants to be General Chairmen like Mel Martinez was and Have Yob actually run the party like Mike Duncan. Personally I think they should run cause it will make it all the more interesting. Plus the seeds of 2012 are being laid. Anuzis is being backed by Romney. Huck is behind Chip Saltsmen's candidacy and I have a feeling Steel is being pushed by McCain and others maybe Sarah Palin or Newt Gingrich.
