Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm . . . I don't know if this was his idea or someone on his staff, but it is a tad bit egotistical.

Hahaha. One of my friend's, commenting before the election and assuming an Obama win, put it perfectly - At least we can look forward to some awesome web design.

The whole "Change.gov" seems a bit much though. I don't really care either way.

for some reason, that sort of gave me the creeps, like they were invading my privacy or something, even though I was the one visiting their site

I disagree withe criticism.  He is the President-elect.  It's a legitimate use of the title.  "Office" is meant in a cyber sense.  The ".gov" is appropriate because he is now dealing directly with the executive department in the transition.

I generally do have change some of my letterheads as soon as some title changes.

To quote Mark Russell: "Such humility hasn't been seen in a Presidential candidate [er, President-Elect] since the Star in the East shone over Plains, Georgia."

I think the problem is that it gives the appearance that the campaign hasn't ended...he should have waited a month before putting this up

I kind of like it.  It's odd, though, that it has a .gov URL.  Don't most organizations classified as 501c(4) organizations by the IRS have .org websites.  (e.g., MoveOn.org or AARP.org)  The use of .gov seems to give it the imprimatur of the federal government of the United States.  A bit misleading.

That said, it's a nice place to watch the victory speech, to read about Obama's agenda and plans, and get information about the inauguration and other executive branch facts that you maybe should have learned in school but forgot.  It also has a link to the government's proper transition website.

Could someone explain to me what the problem is? He's the President-elect... a majority of Americans voted for him... he's now transitioning, so he needs an organization to do that... what's the big deal again?

The big deal is outrageous hubris.  If he doesn't check himself, he's going to self-destruct the first time he hits any major obstacle, which should happen some time between inauguration and the Super Bowl.

I guess someone is going to have to explain to me the hubris here.  This seems more like a fruitless attempt to keep the grassroots sense of his campaign intact.  I see maybe a vanity gesture to activists, not really hubris.

I don't think Obama plans to "end" his campaign until 2012 or even 2016. He's already an icon and he relishes it.

I'm not seeing any huge problem.

As for being an "icon," so was Michael Jackson (and no, I'm not suggesting any improprieties on Obama's part).  It can have some problems.

Not really that big a deal. Just another way to try preserving the personality cult (whatever your political persuasion, let's call a spade a spade). Personally, I'd give the Over/Under until Obama is completely intoxicated by power at about 30-60 days after Inauguration and another 6 months from then until we start seeing some his hardcore supporters (the ones bordering on cult membership) become completely disillusioned, once the tremendous discrepancy between his monumental campaign rhetoric and actual accomplishments in office becomes apparent. It's so funny reading everyone's facebook statuses and realizing how big of a letdown they're eventually in for. Regardless of good a President Obama actually is, there's no way he can meet these expectations.

It's obviously moot now, but I really thought McCain should've tried emphasizing more that the Democrats were going to control Congress by wide margins anyway and therefore the election of Obama would basically give him (a man with no executive experience) complete control over the US goverment. I'm sure even some centrists preferring Obama on the issues would've thought twice and maybe reconsidered McCain as a good check.

LOL

This guy's going to be easy to pick on. Will he keep campaigning now that he's won the Presidency? He's never stayed in a position very long. He might go run for the Presidency of the EU before he's inaugurated here.

Yeah, what's going to happen when he's bored running the country?  Think he'll just turn everything over to Joe?
