Doesn't it seem just like yesterday, when it was 600-some days until Election Day 2008?

I remember discussing the primary season on Yahoo Politics just like it was yesterday.  That website is very unpleasant to chat on.

With the Bush economy, it's felt a lot longer.

I feel the complete opposite.  The Iowa caucus seems like 100 years ago.  So much has happened in the race since then.  Also, there have been multiple other events in my personal life and around the world that have made it seem like the past year has been twice as long.  In my life I graduated from college in March and I went on two vacations over the summer.  Then I moved into a new house in August.  And since the first vote was cast I've held 3 jobs simultaneously (Swim Coach, Swim Lesson Instructor, Standardized Test Grader) and I just applied for a fourth (Substitute Teacher).

Bhutto was assassinated, the Olympics took up half of July and the protests beforehand took up the other half, Russia Invaded Georgia, gas went over $4 per gallon and subsequently plummeted below $2 per gallon in about a month, the stock market crashed and the government spent $700 billion on who knows what, and all that occurred in the midst of a myriad of many other worldwide events that will have an immeasurable on the future course of our planet.

So to me this has been one hell of a year and the election has been just one of many world altering and life changing events for me.

okay, im not the biggest bush fan, but that comment is out of bounds.

for most of the bush presidency, the economy has been quite good.

even now the economy isnt bad by historical standards (despite the 'worst crisis since the depression' rhetoric)

compare the unemployment figures of the entire bush presidency to clinton's first term (or even second)

No. Mild recession, followed by "jobless recovery" followed by $4 gas and financial meltdown is not "quite good."

I thought that the economy was good from 2003-2005...and then post-Katrina and oil prices began the current downturn.

by historical standards, the bush era has been quite good economically.  that cant be denied.

the biggest economic problems we have is stagnant income and lack of affordable health care.  unfortunately a president obama or mccain wont do much about either of those.

The economy has been good by historical standards if you're rich. Otherwise, not so much. Healthcare's been getting more expensive, gas has been getting more expensive, sending your kids to college is more expensive, and all the while wages haven't been going up and good jobs have been replaced with crappy ones.

For a moment I thought this was going to be a reminiscent thread, which would predominantly feature Naso and his fellow Republicans discussing the 2008 match up that was supposed to be: Hillary versus Rudy, and how Rudy would wipe the floor with Hillary. That would have been most amusing.
