Whats with all the Japan love? Japanese culture and society is so f'ed up, they're barely a democracy, and the living standards are questionable.

US - Very Positive
Canada - Very Positive
Mexico - meh, lean positive
Cuba - meh, I'd like to visit someday perhaps to see their beaches.
Venezuela - negative
Colombia - slight negative, but at least they're serious about trying to get rid of drugs. Wouldn't want to go there, though, I don't think.
Argentina - meh.
Brazil - meh, visiting Rio might be fun sometime.
France - negative, but I'd like to visit sometime.
Germany - lean positive
Italy - Very Positive. Very much want to visit. Would love to see the ancient things they've got there, would love to see the Italian countryside, eat italian food cooked by real italians in Italy, want to see Venice. Want to watch italian opera performed in Rome. Mmmm... yeah... very positive.
Russia - negative, but would probably like to check it out sometime.
South Africa - negative, wouldn't want to go there - too much violent crime. They play good rugby, though.
Zimbabwe - negative. Mugabe is a thug who took them from being the breadbasket of Africa to the basketcase of Africa.
Israel - Very positive. A strong democracy which enjoys freedoms not experienced in many countries in that part of the world.
Iraq - I hope they have the opportunity to become a vibrant democracy.
Iran - Very negative
Afghanistan - Another instance where I hope the rebuilding efforts succeed. They used to have universities and were doing quite well for themselves until the Taliban won an election and effectively put women under house arrest... yeah, they've been through a lot, I hope things improve for them.
Pakistan - wouldn't want to go there.
India - lean positive
China - negative. Would like to check out some of their ancient stuff, though.
Japan - positive.
Australia - My home. My favourite place on earth.

I see your countries and raise you:
The UK - Very positive. Would love to go there sometime.
NZ - Positive. Would love to do one of those Lord of the Rings tours there sometime.

We do indeed. I've never received more attention from girls than I received when I visited Canada over Christmas to meet my fiancee's family. Waitresses were ignoring the rest of the table and asking me if I'd like another drink... that felt somewhat bizarre.

good point Torie. we should specify what is meant by opinion.

The following is my automatic reaction, by free association to the following:

Australia, Adelaide

Which begs the question... why?

US - Very fake and hurried. Don't want to spend my adult life here.
Canada - A less desirable version of the US.
Mexico - A superior version of the US.
Cuba - I'd like to live there once they get their house in order.
Venezuela - Can't say much positive.
Colombia - See above.
Argentina - I'd visit for awhile. Maybe live there.
Brazil - See above.
France - I'm not interested in ever living in Europe.
Germany - ^
Italy - ^
Russia - Yeah, I'll pass. Completely undesirable.
South Africa - I'd visit and consider living there if psychopaths weren't in control.
Zimbabwe - ^
Israel - ^
Iraq - Desert
Iran - ^ and mountains
Afghanistan - ^
Pakistan - Ugh
India - Would love to visit.
China - Thoroughly undesirable place to live. I'd consider visiting as part of a broader trip.
Japan - ^
Australia - Different version of western culture. I'll visit.

US - Very positive

Canada - Neutral

Mexico - Neutral

Cuba - Neutral - I'd love to visit one day when the scum isn't running the show down there.

Venezuela - Neutral - I don't want to say negative just based on their disgusting leader.

Colombia - Neutral

Argentina - Neutral - I'd say positive before I took my Latin American Politics class this semester. The Argentine attitude on a lot of issues disgusts me.

Brazil - Positive

France - Let's not get me started. I'll just leave it at very negative.

Germany - Positive

Italy - Very positive

Russia - Negative

South Africa - Neutral

Zimbabwe - Neutral - Again, not just going based on leaders.

Israel - Positive

Iraq - Positive

Iran - Neutral - Again, not just going based on leaders.

Afghanistan - Positive

Pakistan - Neutral

India - Neutral

China - Neutral - Again, not just going based on leaders.

Japan - Positive

Australia - Positive - I'd love to visit one day.

US-mostly positive.  We're not as free as we think we are though.

Canada-mostly positive.  They look better every year.

Mexico-meh.  Some good, some bad.

Cuba-I feel for the people that are forced at gun point to live there.  They need a revolution.

Venezuela-same as above (although they don't seem to be quite as "forced")

Colombia-meh.  Some good, some bad.  I hope they are hooking to the American wagon for the good of their people and not for the good of their elite.

Argentina-I wish them well.

Brazil-I look forward to them being a major player on the world stage...but people have been saying that for 150 years about them and they're just now starting to step up.

France-meh.  I like that they are proud, I like that they strive for uniqueness.  It makes the West more interesting.  Still, they think they are much more important than they really are.

Germany-Mostly positive.  I have some issues with their limited freedom of speech, but it will always be my ancestral Fatherland.

Italy-negative.  I love the history and mafia movies and TV shows...not much else.  Even their food is overrated.

Russia-negative.  They seem to enjoy being under the thumb of powerful leaders.

South Africa-Their recent past is kind of ugly.  I wish them well.

Zimbabwe-poor poor bastards.  You get the govt you deserve.

Israel-positive.  It's hard to stand when everybody around you seems to wish for your death.  Are their actions not always fair?  Probably, but what choice do they have?

Iraq-I wish them the best, but fear for the worst.

Iran-I think they could become a great nation again if they could throw off the shackles of their primary religion.

Afghanistan-Even in a perfect world the people that live there would still be living there...I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

Pakistan-The future is bloody.

ndia-They need to do something about their huge underclass, this will take a long time.

China-I feel for the people that must live under the largest repressive regime the world has ever seen.  At least it's so big the people at the top can never hope to control everything.  I hope for the best, fear the worst.  Because they have an ass ton of young men and many many fewer young ladies, the immediate future probably isn't good for them or their neighbors.

Japan-They've got some issues, but they make great cars and electronics.  I hope for the best.

Australia-Like Canada, only cooler.

Let's start with it being one of the most closed, patriarchical, expensive, and corporate societies on the planet.

...and continue with the overt racism, winner-takes-all attitude, and addiction to surreptitious violence.

I know and like many Japanese people, but the culture and nation as a whole are WAAAAAAYY overrated.
