I read Bob Shrum's book, and he always referenced the Harris Poll. He made mentions of it numerous times, especially during his campaigns in the 90s.

Why is that?

Does the Harris Poll have a good industry wide reputation?

Allthough it's an Internet Poll, it has actually very sound internals.

Harris polling has been around about as long as Gallup, slightly less actually, which makes it 2nd oldest, I think.

Historically, I seem to remember their polls having a Democratic lean, but not major.

They nailed 2000, but had Kerry winning by +1 in 2004.

I'm guessing a self-selection effect skewing the numbers a bit.

Any comments from the poll gurus?

I'm no poll guru, but this seems about right...I think Obama is up 7, plus or minus 3.

I remember seeing their numbers in Carter/Ford, usually reported on ABC, IIRC.

Not bad but always secondary to Gallup.
