Summary of David Plouffe's video:

Over 632,000 new donors.

3.1 million total donors.

More than $150 MILLION raised in September.

Average contribution for the month was under $100.

Average contribution for the entire campaign is around $86.

Will this get JJ to shut up? Odds are no, but still.

He thinks Obama not releasing his information was a conspiracy and thinks Obama was going into debt and telling us...

Excellent news. It probably took this long to declare as it took longer to verify.

The DNC also raised $50 million in September. (Well, $49.9 million.)

he posted in the other thread arguing that McCain has more money than Obama (basically by including the RNC in the total but omitting the cash advantage the DSCC and DCCC have on their GOP counterparts, as always)

yall really need to stop giving him the time of day

DNC also rasied $50 in September.  That's a total of $200 million in one month.

We can probably thank Sarah Palin for energizing the base.  Thank you Sarah for scaring the crap out of people that they gave $150 million to Barack!

The silence from shrill shill spinmeister JJ is most beautiful.

Here's another article on this.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081019/ap_on_el_pr/obama_money

Obama raises stunning $150 million in September

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama raised more than $150 million in September, a stunning and unprecedented eruption of political giving that has given him a wide spending advantage over rival John McCain.

The Democrat's campaign released the figure Sunday, one day before it must file a detailed report of its monthly finances with the Federal Election Commission.

Obama's money is fueling a vast campaign operation in an expanding field of competitive states. It also has underwritten a wave of both national and targeted video advertising unseen before in a presidential contest.

Campaign manager David Plouffe, in an e-mail to supporters Sunday morning, said the campaign had added 632,000 new donors in September, for a total of 3.1 million contributors to the campaign. He said the average donation was $86.

The Democratic National Committee, moments later, announced that it raised $49.9 million and had $27.5 million in the bank at the start of October. The party has been raising money through joint fundraising events with Obama and can use the money to assist his candidacy.

Obama is planning on spending $5 million on the ground in West Virginia in the final two weeks to flip this state.

Awesome, who knows if it will work but it might actually make him jump ahead if he only runs economic ads and one or two negative economic ads against McCain. Of course the state would still be not be friendly to Obama and there would be a lot of reluctance to vote for him.

I think the very simple reason they have not released this number until now is that they didn't want to stop the money firehose. It is all part of their 'no complacency' thing. If donors think Obama has too much money (which he actually might have), they will stop.

But on TV he is seriously running into a wall of how much he can buy in the major swing states. So in a way he has to go into the 2nd and third tier of swing states like MT, ND, WV, GA, IN, maybe even KY.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the weeks in September. The first half is when McCain was getting his Palin/GOP conv bounce. The second half was all post wallstreet meltdown. I wonder which half had more donations.

No, it still doesn't make a great deal of sense to announce what is great news on a Sunday morning, when it's overshadowed by the Powell story.

If anything, this overshadows the Powell story. Btw, JJ, check out my response in the other thread.

It should, but so far, it gets minor mention on MSNBC, well behind Powell.

I mean, there's no way that it would dominate the news cycle regardless.

But yeah, it probably hurts Obama more than helps him

With this kind of money, it wouldn't hurt to throw some cash towards the DSCC. I am assuming there is some way of shuffling different types of donations around, but might be wrong on that.

Of course it helps, and on a day when there no other major Obama story, it would be the lead political story.

Well the conspiracy was that he didn't want to hurt his own fundraising.

I'm struggling to get what your point is.

The Obama campaign delayed the announcement until today because they wanted to keep the donations coming in through October. It's difficult asking people to donate their hard earned money, especially in this climate, when you've just declared you've raised $150m.

Keeping the money coming is much more important than short term news buzz.

Instead of spinning this like it was poorly managed maybe you can just admit you were wrong about Obama losing the money battle and then maybe shut up?
