Read the question. Hell, i'll post it down here for you to re-view again:

Would you rather vote for (hypothetically) Barry Goldwater or George McGovern for president in 2004 (assume they are both alive and healthy)?

I'm voting for Goldwater. Fiscal conservative, strong on defense, a social moderate. Very much the better candidate.

Goldwater.  He seems a better leader, we have some issues in common, and it would castrate a lot of social conservative movement if he won.

Wouldn't vote for either! I'm too much in the centre ground for either of those.

If Goldwater chose Scranton, I'd pick Goldwater.

If McGovern chose someone more moderate, maybe Scoop Jackson? I'd pick him.

McGovern.

On a side note, although I would have voted W. over Goldwater in '64, in '04 I'd vote Goldwater over W. since the Civil Rights Act would not be an issue.

Goldwater was a very very progressive person in regards to Civil Rights and Homosexual rights.
