Not sure. The way it is now Trent Lott could be appointed and no one could complain. But I'm also concerned about tyranny by majority.

I don't think ther should be elections for Supreme Court Justices, but I think they should be on the ballot for aproving when first appointed, and also on reasonable periods of time, like 12 to 12 years.

Yes. We elect legislative and executive so it's only fair. Just make it so that one party could have 4 SCJs at max.

So, ypur saying the election of justices should be partisan? I'm sorry, but not only that is preposterous, it is disgusting.

I suppose we all get upset with the supreme court judges when they do something we don't like, but that is not likely to change just by electing them rather than appointing them. Republicans would still complain about liberal judges and Democrats would complain about conservative judges and probably Libertarians would complain about both. Wink
The founders did a pretty good job of creating our constitution. I wouldn't change it on this issue.

I don't think they should be elected.
Maybe they should have a set term, like 18 years, so that every presidents get to appoint 2 per term or something like that....but if you allow them to be elected you could end up with Justices who have no legal training, which would make the court unpredictable to say the least.

God no.  How are they supposed to act as a check on the other branches if they're elected as well?!  Appointed judges act as a check against sudden turns of popular opinion by acting out life sentences.  Judges also should not be chosen by charisma and they should not feel pressured to make decisions in court based on their reelection numbers.

They're supposed to be there to uphold the law. Unfortunately, they've decided they'd rather write it.

Sure, Why not? But, once they are elected, they should hold that position until they resign.
