New Poll: Minnesota Senator by Rasmussen on 2008-10-07

Summary: D: 43%, R: 37%, U: 3%

Poll Source URL: Full Poll Details

Barkley (I): 17%

However, a key factor in the race is that only 3% are absolutely certain they will vote for Barkley. If the election were held today, it is likely that his actual vote total would end up somewhere between the 17% who say they would vote for him and the 3% who refuse to choose one of the major party candidates as an option.

If those uncommitted Barkley voters and other leaners are added to the totals, it's Franken 50% and Coleman 46%. This suggests that the outcome could be determined by which Barkley supporters stay with the Independent candidate and which choose to vote for one of the major party candidates.

Barkley is currently supported by 11% of Republicans, 10% of Democrats, and 31% of unaffiliated voters.

Damn, I guess Schumer wasn't lying about Minnesota being a likely pickup.

Coleman is only at 37% as an incumbent? That's horrible.

I'd be inclined to vote for Barkley at this point.

The Barkley campaign declines to comment.

The difference between Democrats and Republicans is that when Democrats nominate an Alan Keyes for Senate, they fall in line behind him.

Al Franken is a much better candidate than Alan Keyes ever was.

I'm proud to live in a city where over 70% of the population considers being a Republican to be a million times worse than being Al Franken.

Al Franken is 100 times better than Alan Keyes. Franken is a mainstream Democrat with a background as a comedian/actor.

And Norm Coleman is a vile piece of human garbage.

By that standard, has there ever been a mainstream Democrat as President before?

I don't even know what his social views are, but I can't imagine they're any different from most Democrats.

Minnesotans weren't all that upset by Franken's 'social views' before, and the depression makes all that sort of thing moot.

At last.

Wonderful news. Seeing fake-moderate, pandering Bush-puppet Norm Coleman go away would have been awesome enough...but to be replaced by Al Franken makes it all the more better.

I hope Franken wins. I don't particularly love the guy or anything, but it would piss off the Republicans so much. Look at that, a "moderate" Republican losing re-election in a swing state to a comedian. Haha.

This is embarrassing on so many levels.

On a brighter, more partisan note - He'd be a great fundraiser for the GOP.

*takes off Democrat hat*

I think Franken would be embarrassing for Minnesota, but hey, they elected Jessie Ventura for governor.  I'm certainly embarrassed about our governor whenever I see Kindergarten Cop or Batman reruns on television.

I think Franken would be a remarkably ineffectual senator, I can't see him working well with other people while Coleman is relatively affable and likable and can probably do more for Minnesota, in a vacuum.  However, given a Democratic majority, Franken might be able to do somtehing... but he'll probably be ignored by his Democratic colleagues.

*puts it back on*

I think Franken's outcome depends 100% on Obama's commitment to the state.

I am happy with this poll.

I think Coleman is a serious opportunist slimebag... and while Franken can be a 1st class asshole, he fights the good fight.
