Five polls that all make a lot of sense.

It's a trap.

I want to see another North Carolina poll. I assume Obama is ahead there as well.

This election, for all intensive purposes, is over. McCain has no chance to win it. He can only try to salvage a respectable showing, and that is becoming less and less likely by the day.

Tell that to my relatives.
Me: Obama is up about 8% nationally and all the swing states have swung in his favor. It's widely accepted in the media that McCain is in deep trouble.
Aunt: I don't believe in numbers. There's just no way Obama is going to win. I don't see it.
Me: Just because he's black?
Aunt #2: Yes. There's no way America is voting for a black man, he should have picked Hillary -

I've heard that last point many times now, so I stopped listening after that.

I am convinced that the polls are going to mean nothing this election.  One of two things will happen:

Scenario 1: People really feel that McCain is just an extension of Bush and a gigantic anti-GOP sentiment sweeps Obama into the White House with a larger than expected victory.

Scenario 2: People want to vote for Obama, but in the end they associate with radicalism like Ayers and Wright and make the safer pick in McCain.  Race does become a factor.

or...

Scenario 3: McCain pulls back even in the polls, Palin talks about eatin' good ole' American hamburgers while McCain talks about all his "friends" who want us to win and Obama who "wants us to lose."  Obama simply asks his crowds, "Who they got...John McCain?" McCain convinces Americans not to take a chance on Obama, and McCain wins a narrow electoral vote victory while losing the popular vote.

Naso and Keystone Phil have a huge party in Philly while Eraserhead spends his time working on protest signs for Jan 20th that say, "John McShame is really lame" and a simple, yet artistic "Palin sucks".

Remember that fantasy sequence at the end of 25th Hour narrated by Edward Norton's father? That's what Naso's post reminds me of.

The only thing I can see happening that would allow McCain to win is the second scenario. When people get into the ballot box, will they really want to turn this country over to an untested, 1 term Senator. States like North Carolina and Virginia, will those people really vote for a black man? I won't give up till the results actually come in, but right now I'd bet on Obama and a big win at that. McCain has got to win tomorrow night's debate convincingly or he's toast.

Well, screw you too Ohio.

The other numbers warm my heart though. Especially that nice Florida margin, and Obama's first lead in Missouri since June.
