It appears this week will be 'guilt by association' week with both camps firing 'your friends are sleazier than our friends' attacks. This means that most news stories about one candidates associates will contain news about the other's associates to maintain 'balance'

In the end who will win this war or will it be a wash leaving the race as it is (or dragging them both down equally creating more undecideds). Will the 'low info voters' who are the ones most likely to swing or be undecided see any difference between the various attacks?

McCain... Obama really does not and should not go there.  As I mentioned in a previous thread, his surrogates and the media will do his heavy lifting.  He needs to focus on the economy, health care, and other pocket book issues... it's working...

McCain, but not for the reasons Nick thinks, and I'd saw wash or near wash.

Out of all of these, the most recent and closest to either candidate is Rezko.  That's the only real one.

I expect McCain to get a boost similar to the Palin VP debate bounce

The only way for Obama to win is not to play and stay focused on the issues.

…or muddle the debate into confusion, accuse McCain of distracting everyone, and go on the offensive every time a surrogate is asked about Ayers/Rezko/others instead of actually defending Obama.  That way the debate becomes McCain says Obama is bad because of this, Obama says McCain is bad because of that.  Instead of McCain says Obama is bad because of this and Obama says no I’m not bad because of this, in which case, the conversation focuses a lot more on this instead of equally between this and that.

So, minus one or two points? Yeah, seems right.

Neither, but it tips Obama since atleast in his "guilt by association" ads hes linking McCain to the economy...and not talking about random non-stories that have nothing to do with the state of the race currently.

I really don't think many care about this stuff anymore, even in Ohio. People are mostly concerned with their economic survival.

Hillary tried to make an issue out of Rezko, and several McCain ads have mentioned him. Each time, it failed to gain traction. When you start talking about property deals, the American people fall asleep.

He's been convicted since then.  Wash or near wash, however.

I'll say again that I doubt that Ayers will be the issue.  Rezko might get some traction, but not a lot.

True. And I do agree that McCain comes out on top on any mudslinging battle.

The only association that should matter in 2008 is that between the Republican presidential nominee and this chap:

Bush has only shown disrespect for his country given the fact that he's reduced her international standing and torn her moral authority to threads. Not to mention, allowing himself to elicit much ridicule and contempt

I don't think I can ever forgive Bush for doing that

However, this question could be asked in another way and the answer would be McCain's "association" with Bush, the bailout and the rest of the pubbies is costing him the war.

Rezko won't cause any difference; Hillary was bringing it up for months to no avail.
