Who cares? The governor of North Carolina does not affect me in any way. The senatorial and the presidential results of NC on the other hand do. Go ahead and take the governor's seat in North Carolina. Quite frankly, I don't give a damn.

Both this and Montana's seem a bit too favorable to the Republicans.

North Carolina's congressional delegation is a Democratic gerrymander.  This race could be worth two house seats.

Pat McCrory would be a good governor, he changed Charlotte for the better.

Weird. Obama leads, Hagan probably leads by even more, but McCrory leads? And apparently Easley is now unpopular. Anti-incumbent sentiment rife in NC, mayhaps?

Well this does look optimistic...don't jinx it!!

the only races in states that the GOP has a legit shot of picking up on all four fronts (President, House, Senate, and Governor) are as follows:

President: NONE
Senate: NONE
House: Texas, Alabama
Governor: North Carolina (unless there's also something going on in Washington I'm not aware of)

North Carolina's congressional delegation is a Democratic gerrymander.  This race could be worth two house seats.

One, maybe. The map is not actually that much of a Democratic gerrymander given the behavior of the Bush 41 Justice Department in 1991, and again in 2001. Furthermore, McCrory is almost certain to face a Democratic legislature(while the House may be in reach after a really good 2010, the Senate is not) which means the best he can do is give the Republicans a say. This will likely lead to

A. An incumbent protection plan.

B. A deadlock that the courts will resolve by simply fixing the 2001 map for population.

It also bears keeping in mind that the Justice Department has a veto on any map, important if Obama is President.

I also don't really see how any of the current Democrats is particularly easy to threaten. All of the weak congressman in NC are Republicans(Foxx, McHenry), the democrats could probably all survive districts that are 1-2 points more Republican. Really, McCrory's presence is not about gaining seats from the Democrats, but protecting the Republicans from a 9-4 or 8-5 Democratic map.

Wow. This is definitely pretty surprising. I thought for sure Perdue would be ahead. I guess the debates she's been getting slammed in have actually hurt her. It'd be shocking if McCrory won along with Hagan and Obama. It would be the complete opposite from what I expected.

Still a Dole apologist even as we have proof that she's throwing away a Senate seat? Hey, at least you get points for consistency.

The governor of North Carolina cannot veto a redistricting plan.

If people in North Carolina are voting for change/in a "throw the bums out" mentality, it makes sense -- Perdue is part of the state government Democratic establishment, just like Dole and McCain are part of the Washington Republican establishment.

Rasmussen has been pushing people pretty hard lately. Almost all their polls have undecideds around 1-2% now. It doesn't seem to matter. Even pollsters like PPP and that unknown one have McCrory in the lead. I'd be shocked, though, if we had Obama, Hagan and McCrory winning on election day. It would be a complete flip from what North Carolina usually does.
