Written off for so long, the North Carolina Senate election has suddenly turned into a highly competitive race. Why? Perhaps the answers lie in Hagan's unusual electoral strategy, which she talks about in the video below;

Hagen strategy: Let Elizabeth Dole be Elizabeth Dole.

We have a limited YouTube quota at work. I thought if someone could explain briefly the contents, it would be nice. If nobody wants to, I'll check it out tonight, provided I remember this thread was here. That's all.

You're a Jew, right?  Ever heard Wagner, specifically, Ride of the Valkryies?  Smiley

I have a bad feeling Palin coattails will save Stevens. Hopefully NC will make up for it if that's the case. Smiley

That would be amusing, so I hope so. But, really, the Hagen-Hagan thing was just too obvious not to... you know...

In all seriousness, Hagan has run an adroit campaign. She essentially ran under the radar after her big primary win, amassing cash, and letting the DSCC do the dirty work for her. While the  national Ds attacked Senator Dole's efficacy as Senator, Hagan went up with positive spots and attended tons of local events across the state.

Now she's running ads to drive home the pernicious effects of Dole's voting record.  This ad is one of the most effective of the cycle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTmLqNcmVwE. Instead of using glitzy graphics and a stream of dense stats, she uses ordinary people to drive home her point. Hagan's campaign has largely been driven by smart ads like this. While I still find it difficult to see her winning over 48% of the vote, I think she deserves recognition for running a great campaign.

If Hagan keeps up a strong campaign and wins I could see her eventually being a strong candidate for higher office in the future.
