What the hell?

I've been making a point to DVR "The McLaughlin Group" every week.  And whenever Russia comes up, I find myself agreeing with Pat Buchanan.  Like when he says, "Georgia poked a hornet's nest and got what it deserves" and "We need Russia if we're going to confront our real enemies."

I have always hated Buchanan's attitude on social issues and, particularly, with his little dance around the Holocaust.

Is he making more sense these days or am I just hearing him say things that got drowned out before by his more bellicose statements?

Oh -- by the way -- people who say PBS is dominated by liberals are full of crap.  McLaughlin is a center-right Republican and his panel?  Buchanan, Monica Crowley (far right but smokin' HOT), Mort Zuckerman (right wing) and poor Eleanor Clift (left).  WTF?

I miss crabby old Jack Germond.

Buchanan has always tended towards isolationism IIRC, because he's a Paleo-Con (sort of). His views on the Georgia-Russia conflict would fall into that worldview on foreign policy. eg. it's a matter between those two countries and it would best we stay out.

He's pretty crazy, but he's not as crazy on as many issues as most Republicans.

How can you even manage to get through an entire episode of The McLaughlin Group in the first place? What is it about five people yelling at each other simotaneously that we find so fascinating?

Well, Mr. McLaughlin did host the Cheers 200th episode special. That has to count for something.

Buchanan nailed the current situation in his last commentary.

I like Pat...he's been on Morning Joe almost daily and his analysis of the political situation seems spot on.

He's attacked both sides for failings in the campaign and praised both for things they did right..

Pat Buchanan is very good on foreign policy and was one of only a couple major news network commentators to support Ron Paul for the Republican nomination. Still, it frustrates me that he is now supporting McCain, an internationalist warmonger, because he believes McCain will nominate judges who will overturn Roe v. Wade.

I also like Pat because he just seems to be having so much fun.  Watch him sometime.  He's loving it.  And you get the sense, whether he is talking to his ideological soul mate or a complete opposite -- he really likes the person.  Yeah, he yells at Eleanor Clift and she yells back.  But they have a twinkle in their eye and you get the sense that, like hockey players, they brawl on the ice and then go out for a beer afterward.

I dunno.  I am just liking Pat a lot.  Most of it's personal, cause I despise his ludicrious stance on the so-called "culture wars".  But I think he has it spot-on when he says, "We need Russia."

I do find his sister, Bay, peculiarly repugnant however.

Yes, this I agree with. Buchanan is likable despite my strong disagreement with him on my positions.

I've loved Pat Buchanan for many years now. He's easily my favorite pundit.

Buchanan is extremely likable, but agreeing with him on policies is a bad sign and indicates you should check yourself.

But even I like Huck's sales tax idea.

A double digit sales tax on everything to replace progressive income tax? I can't think of a better way to kill the economy. Not to mention screw over everyone but the ultra rich. That said I agree with Huck on at least a few issues, even if I think his views are pretty dangerous over all.

I think he comes off as truly caring about what's best for the U.S.

We dont' have to agree with him all the time but he's sincere, not two-faced, and love him or hate him he's no phony.
