Not a great idea, though probably the best one actionable. People need to be able to defend themselves against home invasion robbers.

I think if you're going to shoot and kill an intruder, you'd better have proof that they were trying to attack you and take your life.

If it comes down to "shoot now, ask questions later", then you should be charged with manslaughter.

What kind of proof are you talking about? If it's late at night and your house has been broken into, what the hell are you going to do, ask the guy to leave and if he won't conduct a survey to determine his motivations?

"Umm, sir, did you perhaps break the window of the wrong house?"
"If you don't mind, could you please leave and clean up this glass for me? kthxbye"

If I read this correctly, someone must be in the process of commiting a felony...b and e or rape or something along those lines, no?

If so, I have no problem with this legally.  I would suggest, as would a great many people in law enforcement, that there are likely better ways to respond.  Too often, the "defender" can't shoot worth a damn and hits an innocent.  Or, freezes and the gun is taken from him by the criminal.

As our right wing, very conservative Republican sheriff tells me..."There's no home defense like a German Shepherd."

Still, this -- if I am reading it correctly -- is much saner and more restrained than the law that Florida passed (or proposed?) allowing you to shoot and kill anyone, anywhere...as long as you "felt threatened".

I admit -- I didn't read the whole bill so correct me if I am wrong.
