It looks like Obama plagarized the "lipstick on a pig" line.

Yes, from John McCain.

"Lipstick on a pig" is an English idiom. You can't plagiarize idioms.

the entire riff was pre-scripted, is that Obama begins to tell the joke wrong.

Obama started in with Toles's "Exce-", but quickly realized that he didn't start the joke correctly, so he went back and filled in the preamble to the joke, and then he returned later to Toles's "Except" once again.

After that, he deliberately launched into the "Lipstick on a Pig" template, pausing and hesitating and timing the joke for what he hoped would be maximum effectiveness.

I thought his stuttering was a result of straying from his speech.  If the pig-lipstick comment was really scripted, then the Obama camp is really dumb.  They need to ignore the existence of Sarah Palin.  Period.  Everytime they mention her they lose.  They are screwing up big time because Palin so far has been just a novelty, but ABC News is about to spend two days interviewing her, which I suspect Palin is going to pass with flying colors.  So all this bickering is going to serve as a lead into what is sure to be America's first view of the very charming and down to earth Sarah Palin.

IMO, underneath her good looks, Sarah Palin is an extremely competent woman.  She has all the intelligence to kick you butt, plus all the eye candy to distract you.  Playing poker with her is suicide.  The only winning move is to take your cards to another table and forget that she ever existed.

But, by simply mentioning the word "lipstick", the Obama camp just bought McCain the needed two days of filler fluff before Palin impresses the heck out of America with her charm, intelligence, and competence.  At that point, she is no longer a novelty.

OMG -- this really worries me.  And just the other day, I used the phrase "When it rains, it pours".  I wonder if the Morton Salt folks can sue me for intellectual property infringement?

Ghostmonkey -- I do want to congratulate you.  You are now tied with Vanderblubb for status as "the most flaccid little puke to ever troll a message board".  Bravo.

Yes he is.

And don't forget his "Hillary!" era when casting your vote.

You people are forgetting that this shows that the line was planned and scripted. It was lifted directly from a political cartoon.

The fact that the cartoon contains an idiom doesn't negate the plagiarism of the cartoon.

ghost,

forget about plagiarism, the interesting question is whether it was scripted or if Barack was straying from the script.

If scripted, they're dumb, but that can be corrected.

If he was straying from his speech, then Barack may be snake-bitten since he can't seem to get that woman off his mind.
