I'm starting a series of threads naming former U.S. office holders and looking for your responses on three levels...

1.   What, if anything, did you like or dislike about them?  This could be policy, campaign tactics or just personality.

2.    What are they doing now?  If you know.  (If pushing up daisies, just ignore questions two and three.)

3.    Do you see them making a return of any kind to politics, either at the district, state or national level?  Why or why not? (In some cases, this will be obvious because of age, etc.)

THIS THREAD == Former Governor Gary E. Johnson (R-New Mexico)

Wow, very interesting choice.  He is speaking at the Ron Paul convention and is one of my personal favorite politicians ever.  I believe he is the highest ranking elected official to ever call for an end to the war on drugs.

Really a courageous stance for any pol to take.  I am not sure I agree with him on it, but it's gutsy.  I think he may run again, for something, but probably as a Libertarian.  So I don't see him winning.

No, I think he may run again as a Republican in the Ron Paul-esque "I can get more done as a Republican" thing

I've met him a few times and he's a nice guy.  I always see him riding his motorcycle around town (without a helmet like a true freedom fighter).  He and Tom Udall are probably the two least corrupt New Mexico state officials we've had in the past...  ever...

I'd vote for virtually any Democrat against him.  Richardson's been a vast improvement.
