Republicans cheering Clinton at a convention?

I never though I'd see the day.

What was the cause? Someone living with me is writing a stupid poem.

Joementum.

Also something about bipartisanship on free trade and welfare reform.

Oh. Well, as far as I know Obama's not about to roll back welfare reform, and he's no extremist on free trade. Smiley

I won't be watching tonight because I already hate Joe Lieberman, so why make a bad situation worse.

I like how the XL Center or whatever its called only has room for 10,000 people. The GOP probably picked the smallest possible venue in order for it to look like they have huge crowds on TV.

The GOP has half the delegates of the Democrats.

I wonder if Lieberman notes any discordance between his speech and the others today?

Every time Lieberman attempts to smile (and actually frowns), an angel loses its wings.

I liked the end, addressing Democrats and Independents directly.

I do find the spread of "My Friends" amusing...first Joe Biden when he got picked as VP, and now Lieberman...

They're aimed at different audiences.

Thompson and Lieberman's speeches were fine. I don't think they were better (and were probably worse) than Warner's or Schweitzer's or Clinton's.

If there was anyone listening. The non-partisan(as opposed to the ideological) center has vanished over the last 8 years. A large number of Democrats hate Lieberman more than that guy who spoke from satellite today, and Lieberman's speech wasn't exactly reaching out to the base on global warming. And McCain himself in picking Palin directly rejected the sort of appeal Lieberman made tonight. Lieberman made a speech extolling a McCain that no longer exists to an audience that is no longer listening.

OK---- Initially Lieberman made a strong speech, but it sounded like he may have crossed a line of sorts, considering that early on he was making a strong sales pitch to moderate democrats, but I'm not convinced he will pick up that much support among any other than conservative Democrats already inclined to vote towards McCain.

I wasn't very impressed with Lieberman's speech.  It wasn't bad, but I don't think it did what he wanted it to do.

Compared to Zell Miller, this was a miserable failure.

In terms of content, Joe >>> Zell, but Lieberman's weak, slow-paced, Jewish voice isn't as memorable or strong as a crazy old Southern man.

What do you think he wanted it to do? I thought it worked far more effectively than the 04 Zell Miller thing. Partisan Democrats aren't going to like it, but isn't that a given?

Lieberman and Thompson did something not done in the DNC:  Appeal to the American voter, not to the party.

I thought Lieberman was effective in that respect.  Not awesome but good, and better than the Democrats did.

The problem with Joe is obviously delivery. I almost had to mute it. Along with that whine, his general boring nature is horrible.

Tonight seemed like a pretty big failure to me but first night's often are.

Now tomorrow, that should be really interesting.

Joe Lieberman: I'm bi-partisan, so I can attack Democrats without consequence! Look at me and my enormous ego!

Just watched some clips on CNN.com.

Fred Thompson had some good lines. I actually laughed. Unfortunately when he says "breath of fresh air" is just emphasizes how McCain is not. And the swamp he talks about draining is a swamp John McCain has been in for 26 years.

I thought he was talking about draining the Everglades to drill for oil.
