I wish her daughter all the best, and I think she is making the 100% right decision to have the baby.

Politically, at least McCain knew, but this really sucks for the GOP.  The stress of it becoming public may also explain Palin's strained voice last Friday.

The biggest question politically is:  can Palin handle the stress and relax on stage with all this going on?  That now becomes the question.

I know I am not representative of anyone, but this is a total non story to me. Yawn.

May I come to the defense of Ms. Palin.

She's like any other normal American teenager that made a bad decision.  It is really sad that the Republican party will force her into marrying the father to put on a good show.

Either way, this is a very poor way to judge the merits of Sarah Palin.  I'm sure Sarah is doing the motherly thing and supporting her daughter through this tough time.

The absolutely most important part here is that this girl has a good family to support her and back her up.  If the Republicans were smart, they could turn this around to be an inspiration to young mothers who got pregnant by accident and decided to keep the baby.

Ha, looks like the conspiracy-mongering nuts did us some good for once! Thank you idiots!

Wait...uh...how were they right? How does this make their previous theory true?

This isn't exactly ideal but I don't see how this story is relevant. The other one would have been because it invovled lying and a coverup. This one doesn't.

It is nobody's business.  If Palin were knocked up with some other guy's kid, it wouldn't be our business...until she started preaching family values and condeming John Edwards, etc.

But this is her child.  It's off limits.  End of discussion.

i agree totally.

i know the 'enlightened open minded' liberals will try to bash palin's parenting and all of that.  theyll say she has no business being vice president if she is such a lousy parents.  and we will see a lot of OMGZ HYPOCRITE.

if ive learned anything, it is that life is complicated and every thing isnt black and white.

and id really feel bad if my mom showed up for work tomorrow and the boss calls her into his office and says, 'we just found out your son drinks entirely too much and has screwed up a lot in life.  this proves you were a bad parent and you are therefore unfit to work for us."

I didn't say they were right. Just that they forced this to be revealed. I doubt it would've been released as it appears to have only been so to put an end to that stupid rumor.

Palin will drop out.  Probably tomorrow.  To avoid scrutiny and undue media attention to their family and daughter in this time.

Obama's convention bounce diminished?  Check.
Base delivered?  Check.
$10-12 million over Labor Day weekend?  Check.
Base angry that the liberals have forced a good woman out of the race?  Check.
Sympathetic women angry for the same reason?  Check.
More competent running mate?  Check.
Everybody talking about how inexperienced Obama is (compared to Palin) for a week, and now no excuse for Obama to duck that issue for the rest of the campaign?  Check.
Total head fake to the Obama campaign?  Check.

It's a really awkward gamble and doesn't make McCain look good, but it lets him take Pawlenty or even the evil one and make it look like he didn't want to, thus mitigating those attacks.  If Palin does it soon the VP will even get to deliver an acceptance speech at the convention.

EDIT: The dropping out bit is not news or anything, just a guess.

I'm sorry. I confused your post with someone else's.

Do you believe this ought to be discussed? If yes, how is this relevant at all to the campaign?

I think when the baby dropped out somebody might have noticed.

It makes no sense that Palin would drop out. McCain knew about this before he picked her and was apparently OK with it.

^^^^^^^^, yep.

and ChrisfromNJ, why on Earth do the decisions of Sarah Palins's daughter say anything about the Republican ticket?

There are enough things to criticize, we don't need to stoop to this level.

Sadly, Chris has gone to new lows.

No.

But whether it ought to be is irrelevant to whether or not it will be.

Not in the last ten days!

One charge has been "Palin is too fundamentalist Christian."  So, we get a chance to see her putting those values into action, sweetly and lovingly.

The Democrats are now in a position where they have to attack a seventeen year old girl and motherhood.  Please, please, start the attacks.

And remember these make up most Obama supporters and you'll be lumping yourself with them unless you vote for McCain.

In terms of political impact, I suspect there might be a bit of negative movement over the next day or two as Republicans who were concerned about Palin drop off the radar screen for a while (depression).

But as for more than that, I doubt it.  The media in general won't touch the issue.  The lefty blogs will, it should be amusing to hear their moralistic preachings.
