Or Riots - the english speaking THais all say 'ree-ots'. Has anyone else been
following this story? The protestors have taken over various government buildings, a state TV station, etc. People say it is their last ditch effort to get rid of Prime Minister Samak and the other vestiges of Thaksin.
The upcountry poors and rurals support the government, while the Bangkok middle classes mostly support the protesters. THe goal is to create a situation where the military can/must do another coup.
Pretty hideoous guy this Samak:
He's had a long history as an extreme right-winger and student killer in Thai politics, but now with Thaksin he's posing as a sort of populist.
