Thai Ree-ots

Or Riots - the english speaking THais all say 'ree-ots'.  Has anyone else been following this story?  The protestors have taken over various government buildings, a state TV station, etc.  People say it is their last ditch effort to get rid of Prime Minister Samak and the other vestiges of Thaksin. 

The upcountry poors and rurals support the government, while the Bangkok middle classes mostly support the protesters.  THe goal is to create a situation where the military can/must do another coup.

Pretty hideoous guy this Samak:



He's had a long history as an extreme right-winger and student killer in Thai politics, but now with Thaksin he's posing as a sort of populist.

That's true of "poors" in general I think.  (yes there are thousands of exceptions)

Well the fact is that no one ever gave them any money/assistance/credit until Thaksin's awful party came along.  Also they share the bigoted prudish social views of that party.  Basically the middle class party (the Democrats) never cared what happened to the poor, and didn't care if they rented out their bodies, took drugs, etc., either.
