I have no idea how we should handle discussions of the conventions, but I figure it might make sense to just have one running commentary thread for each night of the convention.  This thread would include commentary on all of the speeches and other goings on of the first night of the convention.  Another thread would be started tomorrow, etc.

So, watch the convention and post your thoughts here.

That choir was wonderful. I’d have preferred more of  a gospel sound though, children generally ruin tunes in my experience.

Also, the prayer at the beginning was slightly creepy, but I think that was due to the women reciting it more then anything else.

MSNBC is showing a rally of pro-Hillary anti-Obama supporters chanting against pro-Hillary pro-Obama supporters.

I didn't watch any TV coverage of the DNC last election except for Kerry's acceptance speech. I just watched videos of the speeches I wanted to see online. I'll probably do the same here.

I'm envious of you Americans. The only television network showing live coverage of the Democratic National Convention is FOX News and those bastards already stuffed up their coverage shortly after Howard Dean's opening of the Convention. Anywho, is it me or has Howard Dean lost weight?

I was in Denver earlier today and it was quite amusing. I told one of those Pumas to go to hell when they were trying to talk to me.

LOL

Did anyone see those three militant Hillary for McCain women who insisted that they had proof from a former congressional investigator that Obama was a muslim and then couldn't back up anything they said? They also kept attempting to shout down anyone that questioned them.

People that come off as ignorant idiots are freedom fighters?

I'm not saying that all dissatisfied Hillary voters are ignorant idiots but the ones that were just shown on MSNBC certainly are.

Oh, I thought you were referring to the PUMA's as the opposition. Got it.

Anyone watching MSNBC - Michael Smerconish is a well known, well respected radio host from Philly. However, he is pretty weird and says some things that make little to no sense politically. I apologize in advance for those that are left seriously confused/irritated by the guy.

Remember that the broadcast networks (ABC/CBS/NBC) only air live coverage of the conventions for one hour a night, from 10-11pm Eastern.  The stuff that airs then will by far get the most viewers.

So far all ive seen is a lot of past bitterness flaring up again and the Convention hasn't even officially started. I'm kinda disappointed I guess....but I shouldn't be surprised.

Can someone from the McCain campaign please sue MSNBC for equal time? Seriously. This has gotten absolutely disgusting. FOX isn't even this bad for the GOP.

I agree.

The Democrats need more air time on MSNBC during their own  convention

MSNBC has rolled out Republican nutjob after Republican nutjob with no Democratic opposition over the last few hours. In addition to their hour-long exclusive on the PUMAs, you would think that this is the Republican National Convention.

I've had C-SPAN on for an hour and a half now, but I'm not really watching it.  That choir's pretty decent.

Who are on the list of "Republican nutjobs?"  Did any Republicans appear who were not nutjobs, or is the status of being a Republican and a nutter co-extensive?  I am just trying to learn the lay of the land here.
