Is there a predetermined succession process, or will new elections be held to determine Pakistan's new President.

Is there anyone in Pakistan properly suited for the presidency? I fear finding a successor will be difficult. Now that the opposition lost their common objective they will probably start fighting among each other, and then there's always the threat of the military stepping in. Dangerous in a nuclear-armed nation infested with terrorists.

I think they'll make the transition, and the new government will last 3 years at most. Such is South Asia (a part of the globe I am experienced in).

He must really like the leadership style of one of his favourite politicians, that being Richard Milhous Nixon to resign before being impeached, especially in the month of August too, who would have thought? Tongue

I wonder who the Pakistani Parliament will select as President to replace Musharraf? I highly doubt it will be Caretaker President Muhammadmian Soomro, who is considered to be a Musharraf loyalist. It shall be interesting to see who replaces Musharraf as President, especially in the tumultuous times facing both the people and Government of Pakistan.

No, although most Pakistani citizens will do about as badly as Musharraf. Grin

I'm not enough experienced on Pakistan to can say but has Musharraf been a so bad leader for Pakistan? Hasn't he made some positive things? I tend to feel that he wasn't so bad, but as said before, I can more asking than saying.

I think Musharraf would be roughly similar to Ershad. In that respect, he probably did make the trains run on time.

Who's likely to replace him?  One of the coalition leaders, or will there be some sort of interim government before an election can be held?

Interim President (Muhammad Mian Soomro) until Parliament picks a new one.
