Good Riddance. Should have stepped down in 2006.

Shame Musharraf didn't consider resigning in the week of August 8. It would have been quite ironic considering that he likes the brand of leadership shown by Napoleon Bonaparte and most importantly, and most ironic Richard Milhous Nixon. The irony gets more so ironic, when last week you heard reports that Musharraf was planning to fight impeachment charges, similar to Nixon back prior to the beginning of the Ervin Committee. The examples are endless and in the end, Musharraf will do what Nixon did: resign before impeachment charges can be laid upon him.

I was a big fan of his until a year or two ago. I agree that its time for him to step down.

Hopefully Nawaz Sharif doesn't become Prime Minister again. His removal in 1999 was a good thing.

Hopefully the new guy will be more of an anti-Al Qaeda hardliner.

What does August 8 have to do with Napoleon Bonaparte?

August 8 has nothing to do with Napoleon Bonaparte. Unless I missed something whilst reading his article on Wikipedia Wink. Anywho, Gael, I was using Bonaparte as a segue, a better one than the average one used on Today Tonight and A Current Affair, to the irony between Richard Nixon and Pervez Musharraf.

Hopefully the new guy will be more of an anti-Al Qaeda hardliner.

Musharraf was a staunch hardliner against Al-Qaeda in Pakistan you know. However, during his later years as President (it is fair to use past tense considering Musharraf will be gone before the year is out) Musharraf just allowed the US to destroy supposed Al-Qaeda bases in the mountainous borders between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
