I'm not sure they are demonized enough, frankly.

How much is enough? Should the left keep demonizing them until they become nationalized? (as has been suggested by Democrats)

Seeing as how I favor strict price controls on products Americans must have to live, I suppose I'd be pretty open to nationalization.

(There's a reason GM says I am to the left of Mao! LOL)

My friend you make Mao seem like Reagan.  Wink  But you're still the best.

Chairman Ron?  And Dear Leader George?  <grin>

Gasoline is not essential to human life.  If prices go too high, American life will adapt once again and the suburbs will stall while urban life is reinvigorated.  We already see this starting to happen and there's no reason to treat gasoline any different than the automobiles themselves.

That's where we disagree.  Our culture and society is such that, in most places, people must drive or take public transportation to live.  To get to work -- so you can earn money to feed the family, pay the bills and so forth.  To get to health care.

While I do think there can be (and maybe should be) more walking to the store for food, it's simply not practical or realistic to suggest that people find work within walking distance.

Unless you think horses and buggies will make a comeback.  And perhaps you're right....

Why do people still support price controls even after they have been thoroughly discredited by both economic theory and practice? That's a triumph of emotion over reason. price controls 'sound' like a pretty good idea until you realize the consequences.

They have been discredited by Gary North and the extreme right of the Theonomy movement.  Price controls make perfect sense when implemented in very limited, specific areas.

Price controls are only a good thing in emergency situations.
