I'm not sure they are demonized enough, frankly.
How much is enough? Should the left keep demonizing them until they become nationalized? (as has been suggested by Democrats)
Seeing as how I favor strict price controls on products Americans must have to live, I suppose I'd be pretty open to nationalization.
(There's a reason GM says I am to the left of Mao! LOL)
Gasoline is not essential to human life. If prices go too high, American life will adapt once again and the suburbs will stall while urban life is reinvigorated. We already see this starting to happen and there's no reason to treat gasoline any different than the automobiles themselves.
That's where we disagree. Our culture and society is such that, in most places, people must drive or take public transportation to live. To get to work -- so you can earn money to feed the family, pay the bills and so forth. To get to health care.
While I do think there can be (and maybe should be) more walking to the store for food, it's simply not practical or realistic to suggest that people find work within walking distance.
Unless you think horses and buggies will make a comeback. And perhaps you're right....
