Inspired by comments in the thread about Obama's new attack ad.

Anyway I vote no, and I love how they're such a reliable target for the Democrats that usually pays off.

Yes, they make a profit for a commodity they sell, just like any other corporation. If you want to go after anyone go after dairy farmers and processors, they're really taking Americans to the bank.

Yes... its really the people who actually own the oil that are at "blame". Exxon is a bitch corporation but anybody who owns gas stations is losing money right now. Exxon of course like any good evil corporation ditched their gas stations right when they started losing money. Now they can join the saudis in making insane profits.

Yes. A large portion of the industry consists of total assholes, but they're providing an essential product nevertheless. I'd like to see our economy survive without the oil industry.

Exxon’s profit margin stood at 10% for 2007, which is hardly out of line with the oil and gas industry average of 8.3%, or the 8.9% for U.S. manufacturing (excluding the sputtering auto makers).

Not really, no. Though I suspect it's often demonized for the wrong reasons.

The government makes even more insane profits off of oil.

How much is enough? Should the left keep demonizing them until they become nationalized? (as has been suggested by Democrats)

..and I don't think that's counting "gas taxes" that we pay at the pump.  It's obvious who's making a killing here.

That sounds like the most reasonable post here. They're a certainly a buncha old assholes who need a good ol' fashion ass beating, but demonizing might not be the right way to deal with the situation.

Seeing as how I favor strict price controls on products Americans must have to live, I suppose I'd be pretty open to nationalization.

(There's a reason GM says I am to the left of Mao! LOL)

Do they pay a higher tax rate than any other corporation? No? Ok. Is is something unusual for a corporation to pay taxes? Thankfully we haven't got rid of those yet.

HAHA leftists can't face facts? Judging from your social score I bet you don't even "believe" in evolution and I am the one who can't face facts. LOL. Anyways you should check out what I write about global warming and nuclear power. I definitely think reality should be factored in while making decisions.

One of us is confused, wasn't your point that they don't pay enough taxes in the US and that they pay a ton to Ven. and SA?
