Scotland is lucky to have one dedicated railway operator. Okay so it's First which means we get some crazy pink here and there. But the ScotRail brand has been around since the regionalisation of the old British Railways. Before First ran the trains it was National Express and everything had to be repainted. Transport Scotland decided; 'Let's have one livery which means if a new operator wins the franchise they don't have to spend millions on rebranding trains, signs and stations.'

'And let that brand be the Saltire.'

And Labour said ''We have to ask whether the SNP is getting a Government agency to use the Saltire for their own nationalistic aims, rather than simple patriotic pride in Scotland, which we all share." And Lord Foulkes said , they tried to "brainwash people into independence...with a strategy of incremental changes".

And the Tories welcomed the scheme; "If we are to deny its use by anyone other than the separatists, then we deny the right of all Scots to fly their own flag.

And the SNP said "The design pre-dates the administration"

And Transport Scotland confirmed that the design idea did indeed pre-date the SNP administration at Holyrood.

And Labour said nothing and looked rather stupid.

That sort of politics always makes me wince. It's the negative version of early day motions praising the local football club or ice cream factory.

Four words that the world needs more of. Lol. Born in Shropshire IIRC.
