88% disapprove. Maybe being a lapdog to Bush isn't the best strategy?

2% Excellent
7% Good
36% Fair
52% Poor

What the hell is wrong with that 9%, anyways?

Yet the majority of the incumbents running this year will get re-elected.

While "Fair" isn't exactly a glowing endorsement, it's disingenous to assume that all of that 36% is an automatic disapproval.

You're correct that this makes some difference, but Congress has polled as poorly as 13% in one recent approve/disapprove poll, an NBC/WSJ poll among registered voters.

Fair ≠ Disapprove

Congressional approval ratings are also polling garbage in general

Worse than Bush's approvals.

And Congress is under Democratic control.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are doing very poorly indeed in leading this Congress.

Unfortunately, it seems many people take the view that "Congress sucks - but not my Senator/Representative".  Hence the incumbents continue to get reelected over and over again.

Liberals disapprove because of Democratic capitulations on the war in Iraq and FISA reform, moderates dislike Congress because they miss the more halcyon days of bipartisanship, and conservatives are angry at Republicans on spending and Democrats for being Democrats.

What's new?

I would like to know what you would consider success on their part. There are two very different directions one could imagine.

Ugh, they deserve it. I was watching C-SPAN for just an hour and the house was debating a about thanking the firefighters in California. Why do they need to spend their precious time debating a thank-you bill? Sure they can make one, but they should just vote and pass it. What time have they spent thinking about solutions to solve the economic crisis or stop this war?! I'm frustrated, and I actually don't like my representative (although he is a Republican...)

It's hit a record low with Gallup too, at 14%
