He's an expert in foreign policy, he's got some good demographics, he's well-respected, he's not too old.

If he is chosen for VP, we're going to hear for the first several weeks about how he plagiarized Neil Kinnock (?) 20 years ago, how he's been in the Senate for 35 years and never had a real job, how the U.S. hasn't elected a Senator as President in 48 years and now he's doubling down, gee don't his hairplugs look silly?, didn't he call Obama neat blah blah blah.

It's not fair, and he may well be the best VP Obama can choose. I don't see him as a strong option for these reasons, though. He won't bring anything new and exciting to the ticket. He won't make the media sit up and cheer. He'll make them yawn.

Agreed.  I pretty much think that McCain needs a VP that will rock the boat, and Obama needs one that will settle it.  Biden would be a great VP for McCain if he were a Republican, and less of an old coot.

Eh?

Obama is "exciting" and "fresh" enough as it is at the top of the ticket.   What he needs is good ole fashioned, bland Midwestern white guy efficiency with a record of good governance.

I think that makes him an unfunny jerk who is too loud, but necessarily an "incredible racist."  McCain's "gook" comment is similarly forgivable to me, but for very different reasons.

The second video doesn't sound even remotely racist to me, by the way.  He was responding to why being from Delaware doesn't make him a "Northeast liberal" by saying that Delaware is a different state from the rest of the NE.  Which, had New Castle County controlled it then as it does now, would be a good point.

I personally don't think it makes him racist, but my tolerance is much than most liberals.  I think it would unnecessary bad media coverage for Obama.  He needs someone the GOP can't tear to pieces

State's rights /=/ racism

Anyway, you'd know what I meant by that if you read the post after.  In fact, your comment is a great example.  Many Americans think things are racist that in fact either are jokes, or, like the Confederate flag, just plain aren't.

Then "not to mention being incredibly racist" was a strange comment to make, wasn't it?

Nice, I suppose you would've supported a white man's right to own slaves because that, of course, is a state's rights issue too.

No, I would not support any such measure.  However, the thinking in the 1800s was different than the thinking today, people change over time, that is what is good about society, when changes are necessary people make them.  However, we certainly didn't need a war that killed millions upon millions innocent people to free other innocent people.  For liberals who love diplomacy today, they certainly thought it was a bad option in the Civil War.

I'll make sure to add "In the eyes of the American public," before anything you say from now on.  Poor American public.

His plagarism is well known, so I don't think it would have a major play.  Besides, I think he was the guy the dems should have nominated.  He has the experience (both domestically and internationally) that is needed for the office, where as Killary and Obama do not.

John Kerry had that experience in '04, Gore had it in '00, George W. Bush manifestly did not in '00. The Dems can be forgiven for concluding that nominating a smart, experienced senator with a lot of experience but some image problems is not the way to go.

I don't get the New Castle County angle.

that's the beauty of it: if Obama picks him, it shows that he's a post-racial candidate and not a black power radical. It shows that he can and is willing to forgive racism, and that he can heal our racial divide.

note that I think Biden is a poor choice because of his plagiarism and his foot-in-mouth disease, but his past remarks on race might - in this specific instance - actually be a strength.
