RIP.  The death date could be viewed as symbolic by both sides.

I've always believed that in government you need one or two real firebrands from the extreme sides of the aisle, especially in the Senate, in order to maintain balance and stability.  Helms fit that persona quite nicely from the right (as Coburn does now).

While I certainly disliked Helms' politics and rhetoric, I'm not going to bash someone who has just died.

I was always hoping NC-Dems could have defeated him, though it was quite difficult since he had good constituent service, which is part of how he got elected, even though, from the article:

Nah, I just didn't read the thread since then.  Its really dispicable, however, it still continues to prove my point.  All I did was acknowlege something Ted Kennedy did and everyone freaked out, but when people who did more than be born with a silver spoon in their mouth die they can bashed relentelessly to high heaven.  The forum has no class
