Why does the government have to spend money on big program? Why can't they regulate private industries into providing the services?

Why do we need a government health care plan? Why can't we just make a law that requires health rates be capped at certain rates and made affordable and maybe issue a tax credit for it?

Why do we need social security?  Why can't we just require all businesses give employees a retirement account?

Because laws are hard to enforce. It's a lot easier for government to do it itself.

Please.  The government misplaces $23 billion and pays $500 for a toilet seat all the time.

And billions of dollars in taxes are evaded all the time, no?

Why do people think they are entitled to big programs?

A stereotype that is steadily wanning in relevance in this day and age!  As the power of information technology systems increases so we are more and more able to efficiently put governmental centralized planning into place.  History may very well recognize the internet as the final enabler of socialism.

And its amusing that you assume that your average healthcare company wouldn't engage in such waste as paying $500 for a toilet seat.

Ken Macleod already did the bit about computers/networks enabling socialism. The result was... strange.

Yeah, because we all know corporations are willing to spend tons of money on worthless crap. They aren't trying to turn a profit or anything.

Turning a profit for themselves is not the same as turning a profit for society.

So?  The point was that they won't "misplace" $23 billion like our federal government did.
