Close call between Reagan Gorbachev and, since he was such a great person, John Paul II but I'll have to go with Reagan here.

John Paul II played a big role in helping to end communism in the Eastern Bloc, and as much as I'm not a fan of Catholicism, I have to give JPII my vote.

Didn't receive any nominations. (I'd also wager he wouldn't receive any votes, but that's another quite apart.)

Reagan and Gorbachev complemented each other regarding the ending of the Cold War however Pope John Paul II will never get the credit he deserves for the Solidarity movement. He may have not been the face of it but his election in 1978 opened the door for Poland in their movement.

Mikhail Gorbachev.

It was a tough choice between Gorbachev and John Paul II. However out of the two, Gorbachev narrowly takes the cake and is my Person of the Decade for the 1980's thanks to reforms such as Perestroika, which ultimatly led to the down fall of the Soviet Union in December 1991.
