Whilst this might sound like a stupid question, Senator Friz or more importantly Mr. Vice President, what is the main objective to give a widow of a deceased miner some $10,000 dollars a year of the Atlasian Government's money? I assume that this payment to be given out by the Government will be paid in parts?

mining.

I see the bill can actually be misread as to refer to the widow'/widower's occupation... if you absolutely want to...

It was Al's bill to begin with. I assume it's a social justice thing, and mining is an extremely dangerous profession that has to be performed.

I wish to offer up the following amendment

Miners' Partners Bill

1. The civil partners of miners or former miners who die as a result of their occupation or former occupation shall each be given $10,000 a year from the federal government.

Semantics perhaps, but just a tidy up

I know that Senator. Just a query, how much does the average miner get paid per year?

My main objection would be that this isn't the 19th century anymore.  This bill looks alot like something you would see getting passed a couple of years after the Homestead Strike.

shouldn't the company that was supposed to be overseeing the mining be made responsible to pay for this instead of the federal government?

I propose this bill be overhauled entirely:

First, the aid shall be raised to $150,000.

Secondly, the aide will only be distributed in the event of a catastrophic mine collapse, resulting in the deaths of, at least, 50-100 individuals... the idea being that a large enough suit against the mining company would bankrupt the company, and thus rob the town of future sources of income, and would also result in any charity aid provided being spread too thin to do much good for an individual family.

Moreover, these funds should be extracted from the FEMA general fund.

In my opinion, 100% yes.  Absolutely.  And it should probably be more than $10,000 a year in this case.

No, because it isn't compensation.

Aye

I would also like to take this opportunity and amend the Miners' Partners Bill proposed by Senator Friz. If it is not that late, that is Smiley. It shall change from this to this:

Remember fellow Senator's that second passage is only an idea and yes the idea behind that came from Supersoulty's idea, which I appreciate very much. If you do not like it I'll accept your decision.

I too would like to propose an amendment so that the bill would read:
1. The civil partners of miners or former miners who die as a result of their occupation or former occupation shall each be given $10,000 a year from the company responsible for the site.
