http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unchurched

Option 2, barely. The one time I've gone to a non-Easter service in the past six months apparently takes me out of this category for now. But I have no doubt fallen into it at many points in my life.

Personally I think a better definition would be someone who doesn't attend non-"special" services at least once a month on average, as it would more consistently include the same people throughout time.

I guess it depends on whether you were going for secular/humanistic/community reasons, or theological/formal spiritual reasons Tongue

Ok. I'm going to start an in-thread poll since a new thread would be pointless. How many of the unchurched people were raised christian but it didn't take hold or you dropped out?

The tradition of atheism/agnosticism goes way back on both sides of my family. I think my great grandmother was the last one known to have some modicum of faith; her husband however did not.

I'll take that as a no and say I'm unchurched. As for the in-thread poll, I was raised nominally Presbyterian, but we never went to church after I turned ten or so. My mother was raised in a fairly religious WASP family that made a big deal out of going to church every Sunday and eating Sunday dinner early and whatnot. My father's family was military and, as far as I can tell, mostly nonreligious.

unchurched and I went 3 times a week for the first 21 years of my life.  The brainwashing didn't stick.

I dropped out after being very, very heavily inundated and enthusiastic about Christianity for some 19 years. Haven't been to church service in.. well, honestly, I can't remember. I don't even think I went for Christmas or Easter.

You and I differ then since I come from a background where my parents weren't that devout and I was never enthusiastic or ever that much of a believer in catholicism.

I've been going a lot lately, as my church has had some important votes. I've been to 3 of the last 5 services. Also, my church is now only a block away. I have no problems with it though, since I am in a very left wing religion.
