Obama/Edwards: McCain would have to devote at least 10 minutes of every stump speech to explaining who Sarah Palin is.

He might make inroads among the young male category.
I mean, she is really hot.

"Dude, she's the hot chick standing behind him! Wait, she's 44? Whoa!"

(Sorry. I actually think Palin would be a pretty good VP pick, at least better than Edwards. But that would happen.)

Edwards isn't going to be the VP nominee again.

My only defense: I had never heard Palin speak.

Well, you were kinda right. You said neither would be VP and Sarah Palin was only a VP candidate, not VP.

Lol.  I never understood why some people thought "name recognition" would be a factor in VP picks.  Once you're picked as a major party's VP nominee, you'll get enough news coverage that people who know who you are well before election day.

I'd argue...

I do think name recognition has a role in media narrative, though, which is extremely important with VP picks.  "Who is this woman and what do we know about her?" is a mis-fire; "surprising maverick breath of fresh air!" is a hit.  In the end, it's not like having a low-recognition VP makes an electoral difference outside of having less of a home-state impact.  But, more than with President (where the idea of low name recognition after an extended primary/general is just stupid, unless they're just totally eclipsed) the VP's recognition does shape first-glance perception.

I think that's what prohibited Bayh from being picked, he media had preemtively decided that Bayh was a boring bore.

How could you of all people Verily say such things about Governor Palin? You have let me down Angry

Anywho, Verily in hindsight, would you rather have John Edwards as your running mate or Sarah Palin?

Our first major argument over Palin broke out around this time.  Jmfcst, John Ford and J.J. were early fans.

From a personal integrity point of view (as in, not having to bathe afterwards), Palin. In terms of winning elections, probably still Palin. Edwards in terms of ideology, but even Edwards doesn't have a ton in common with me ideologically, if he has any real political views at all.

Anyway, as I defended myself above, I had never had the misfortune of hearing Sarah Palin speak or having to tune in strongly to her political views at the time I posted that.

It wasn't that. I wanted to put a women on the Ticket and Palin just seemed like she would fit the GOP Ticket better then most other women Republicans.
