Gporter, I totall agree with you.  I love this book, after hearing him on the radio.

I know that Storm Thurmond had his heart set on sending the election to the house. How much more work would he have had to have done to make that happen? I know too that he thought that he would carry Texas? What more do you think that he should have done there? Did he ever have a chance to carry Texas?

Strom never really had a chance.  He would have needed to convince the Party leaders in most of the Southern states to switch to him, which was unlikely.  Richard Russell would have been able to do so, but not J. Strom Thurmond.
