If you just count the old Confederacy, North Carolina is probably the best state. Arkansas may be a close contender.

Florida actually is extremely conservative in practice.

I'm surprised Arkansas is winning this poll--although Democrats are competitive in most of the state, Ark. does not really have pockets of social liberalism.

When voters in poor rural counties support liberal candidates it's more likely to be because of their economic populism. The economic issues really bring out a rural-based brand of economically liberal politics.

I think it's fair to say that Florida and Virginia would be among the LEAST[/i] liberal places in America on economic issues.
