He'd still get demolished, but he would have been a way better candidate than Fritz Mondale so maybe he could round up 100 electors at most.

This is the maximum any Democrat could have gotten against Reagan in 1984 with Arkansas Democrat only because of Bumpers' home state advantage. Reagan wouldn't have fallen below 400 EV's

There are really not too many ways this election could have gone.

As has been stated, still a big win for Reagan, but Bumpers does better than Mondale.

No Democrat would have defeated Reagan in 1984, or even come close.

Reagan/Bush                    413
Bumpers/Dukakis              125

Ronald Reagan/George H.W. Bush (R): 382 EV, 54% of the PV
Dale Bumpers/Michael Dukakis (D): 156 EV, 45% of the PV
Others (Libertarians, Socialist, ect): 0 EV, 1% of the PV

President Ronald Reagan easily wins re-election over Arkansas Senator Dale Bumpers. However Bumpers does perform better than Mondale in 1984 thanks to performing better in the Midwest and in the Upper South. For Senator Bumpers' efforts, Bumpers picks up 156 Electoral College votes.
