It's used by the intellectually weak on the forum.  But since I tend to ignore those to begin with, it doesn't bother me as much any more (especially since I know they won't progress anywhere in life).

Using "gays" and using "the gays" are two separate things.  And unlike "poors," "gays" is an acceptable term in the English language when referring to the group as a whole.  "Poors" is not (just as "deers" isn't acceptable).

EDIT:  Wow, I just noticed I did have an instance where I said "the gays."  Must have been a bad day.

That's the whole idea.  One should try to reflect their real status in the social heirarchy - and they are unimaginablely low and hopeless and oppressed.

Exactly. It's not good to be poor.

I also like to use "poors" because it gives us freedom  of expression where conventional English language deprives us of such freedom.
