Barack Obama should pick former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman for VP.  this accomplishes three things; it helps Obama in his weakest area of the nation - the deep south; puts a Catholic on the ticket, and something else which I knew a second ago but can't remember now.

The just-getting-out-of-federal-prison-in-late-March factor might be an issue

I knew somebody would bring that up.  I don't think it would be a big issue since he is already out of jail.  if he were still incarcerated it would make his selection more trivial - but not off of the table altogether.

Siegelman also served in public service in Alabama for 26 years, and served in the top four statewide offices.  this could help put to rest some of the questions about Obama's lack of executive experience.

How about Phil Bredesen? He's had 17 years in public service, is from a weak region for Obama, and is a moderate governor that could balance out Obama being a Senator. It was also speculated that he might have run for President this year, but he did not join because of the large field.

not a Catholic.  Siegelman is the only choice.

A Catholic isn't really necessary.

Why in the world would Obama pick Siegleman...indicted? corruption? talk about a stupid move by Obama, who promises honesty and a fresh face to politics. Bredesen is by far a better pick, not that Obama would win Tennessee, but he'd make it close. Alabama will never be lost by ANY Republican.

My vote is that he's high.

This appears to be one of those Pubbies are just trying to give Obama some friendly advice threads. I think he should pick Dick Morris myself. I mean who has done more to trash Hillary?  He's earned his spurs. He also might help calm the angst among some Jewish voters regarding Obama.

Siegelman's quite innocent, of course, but it would still be a poor pick.

You misunderstand.  If Jim Traficant is going to be on any ticket, he'd have to be in the top slot with his hair as running mate.  Or the other way round, possibly.  But either way, there'd simply be no room for anybody else on such a ticket.

If you're going to put a southern moderate-conservative as Obama's running-mate, then why not have former Sen. Sam Nunn of Georgia?

That may be the most brilliant suggestion I have ever read in the forums.  Hell, Enrico -- we could just nominate Traficant's hair for President and Sharpton's hair for Vice.  Forget the actual guys.

I love it!!!!

(Thanks, btw.  I needed to read a lighter post.)

Yeah, as excellent as McCain/Morella or McCain/Chafee...
