Sometimes, they get elected. And never show up.

Weird. The whole concept just seems odd because of my perception of my own State House and how it operates... guess things are different when you have tiny state with a ridiculously enormous House.

Ridiculous.  It took him SIXTEEN MONTHS to resign?

The best part is that they're three others who they also haven't ever heard from

Since when did New Hampshire become part of the Pacific?

The way NH does these things is really weird.

So this is what happens when a political wave engulfs a state with a legislature large enough to truly represent its citizenry?

I would argue that no legislature that pays its members just $100 can ever be said to "truly represent its citizenry". Not for long anyway.

The article only said the other three hadn't voted yet this year.  They may have cast some votes in 2007.

Actually, it's fairly common in PA, at least at the local level, to have no pay or very limited pay.

Think about being a board of education member.  Potentially lots of work and no salary at all.  In Nebraska, the state board of education members are not paid.  They get expenses for travel to and from Lincoln and probably per diem; that is it.

It takes a certain motivation that I don't possess.

Not to give New Hampshire advice, but if they went to a 40 member State House, they could up the salary to $1,000 per year with no increase in budget (and 360 spare desks)!

I made zero dollars a year for being a borough councilman (though I could have receive about $300.00/year) and zero as a school director.  I averaged $105.00 as assessor.

I'm sure the French Senate will happily accept him into their ranks. They share common values, among them, working hard.

This is why I'm happy that California has a smaller legislature than New Hampshire. I know Sally Lieber gets paid enough to do her job.
