This is in alternative elections, because we now know that this will not happen.

The tickets are the following...

Mike Huckabee/Tom Ridge
vs.
John Edwards/Evan Bayh

Edwards, the real populist, crushes Huckabee, the faux populist.

In this scenario Edward's economic populism seems more compelling than Huckabee's version of the same. The war would likely add some hurt to Huck, but his social conservatism would weaken him to Edwards, who I believe would play up the image of a moderate against a radical. Who knows but that's a scenario I think would yield this kind of map.

John Edwards/Evan Bayh (D): 336 EV, 51% of the PV
Mike Huckabee/Tom Ridge (R): 202 EV, 48% of the PV
Others (Socialists, Prohibition): 0 EV, 1% of the PV

The populist Democrat John Edwards manages to defeat the populist Republican Mike Huckabee. Anything else? Nope.

I doubt that Edwards would win NV-CO-NM. He'd probably have a better chance at MO, VA, WV, NC, maybe TN or KY.

Then again, Huckabee doesn't really appeal to those western states either.
