Per the PRA, the party of the departing Senator, in this case Mr. Moderate, shall choose his successor. Therefore, I open this convention to discuss and eventually vote on our choice of replacement.

Although the vacancy is only for the District 2 seat, and thus can only be filled by a member resident in District 2, as this seat will be up for national re-election in April, I think it prudent that all members of the NLC participate. Each member will have a single vote, and the voting with be by IRV; in the case of a tie, the candidate with more votes from D2 NLC members will be chosen.

For reference, members of the NLC registered in D2:

Verily
Moderate
Rockefeller Republican
Ernest
Hashemite
AndrewCT

The floor is now open for nominations.

You should probably add a caveat by the names of yourself and Moderate on that list, as neither of you will be nominated (of that I am fairly sure).

If the convention allows it, I put my name forward for the party's nomination.

I would like to clarify that the SoFA does not necessarily require the nominee to be from District 2.

Regardless, I still think it a good idea for the NLC to nominate someone from District 2 regardless—good form and balance and all that.

If the convention allows it, I put my name forward for the party's nomination.

No slight on any other resident of D2, all of whom I feel would make strong candidates for Senate, but I whole-heartedly support and endorse Hashemite as my successor.

I have no interest in stepping down from the Supreme Court for an interim Senate seat that will be up for election next month.

Is this just members of the District 2 NLC, or the national one? If it's the latter, then I put forward Rockefeller Republican's name for nomination.

From the sound of things,
(1) all NLC members are allowed to participate in the discussion and vote, but,
(2) the candidate should come from District 2, and,
(3) any tie will be broken by putting additional weight to the votes from D2 residents.

If it's the latter, then I put forward Rockefeller Republican's name for nomination.

As much as I appreciate the former Lieutenant Governor for putting my name forth for the District 2 senate seat, I shall ask the Convention not to put my name forth.

Well, assuming our new Governor has no interest, I think we've found our candidate.

Indeed, I have no interest in putting my name forward for this seat. I'm happy in my new position as Governor. Congratulations Hashemite!
